are prejudiced. He admits to his own nature, but wants to understand it. Again, his message was jumbled, but beneath every bigots rant is often a programming of sorts. In
fact, EST founder Werner Erhard based his program on the fact that people live by their programs. Likely, Richards was exposed to racism and identified with it. It is hoped
that as people mature, they do not accept their culture and family values if those things are not aligned with ones spiritual growth. In embarking on a spiritual journey, Keating
(1999) talks about leaving ones past behind to form a new individual. He calls this self attached to the past, a homemade self. When human beings try to hide pain
form their past that they are not ready to face, the emerge with a homemade self, which is a self that does not conform to reality (Keating, 1999). People go
about their lives and as things enter into it, they make judgments as to whether or not it is something good for the individual (Keating, 1999). People are generally selfish.
They look at life from the perspective of whether or not something will be good for them. Keating (1999) writes: "Hence, good and evil are judged not by their objective
reality, but by the way we perceive them as fitting into our private universe or not" (p.14). Keatings points are well taken. Ultimately people do things that are good for
