investors sold much of their Hilton Hotels stock (Jones, 1995). There was the idea that the company, or at least part of it, would be sold (1995). What happened
was that about six months later, after looking hard for a buyer, Hilton announced that its gaming division would become a publicly traded company and separate from the
hotel division (1995). Shareholders who held on believing that they would get a least $85 per share were crushed as the stock closed down at $71 after it
shed $314 (1995, p.PG) million in value. What happened was that Hilton could not find a buyer so there was talk of the company splitting and once it
did, there would be many more potential bidders who would want a piece of Hiltons business, but not the whole thing (Jones, 1995). At the time, Barron Hilton was
the CEO of the corporation and controlled one third of the stock (1995). There was a great deal of fear that surrounded the uncertainty in 1995, and analyst
Steven Eisenberg warned that the slide was not over (Jones, 1995). Without a successful sale, shares in the hotel and gaming divisions were only worth about $40
and $25 per share respectively (1995). Not too much time went by before Hiltons board of directors approved a plan to in fact split the company (Alexander, 1995). Things
would change from there. Stephen Bollenbach would become CEO of Hilton Hotels Corporation. The business would have much diversity, inclusive of a variety of products, one of which was and
