aspects of the health insurance crisis. Discussion Peter Jennings, legendary ABC television reporter, filmed a documentary about the health insurance crisis, which he found to be "threatening American families --
and American businesses" (Peter Jennings reporting: Breakdown -- Americas health insurance crisis, 2005-hereafter "Jennings, 2005"). His report found that the number of uninsured is growing, and that the fact that
they a large percentage of Americans have no insurance "affects the health care all Americans receive" (Jennings, 2005). One of the immediate affects of lack of coverage is the growing
number of people who use emergency rooms for routine medical care, which then compromises emergency care for everyone (Jennings, 2005). Jennings found that many people have trouble affording the premiums,
and even when they can pay for it, they cant get insurance (Jennings, 2005). This is because insurance companies can pick and choose, and take only the healthiest applicants, turning
down those "who suffer from even the most common medical problems, like allergies and acne" (Jennings, 2005). The picture is little better when it comes to employer-provided health coverage, because
health care costs have risen so dramatically that its not feasibly for small businesses to provide it; even large corporations are feeling the strain of enormous, and ever-increasing, medical bills
(Jennings, 2005). The reason for the huge increases in health care costs is not the insurance companies, Jennings found, but the fact that "Americans are using more medical care --
and more expensive care -- than ever before. Since the 1980s, the amount the country spends on medical care has increased by 500 percent" (Jennings, 2005). It is the demand
