as the Gulf War occurred almost fifteen years ago. Considerations of the region and the people, or even war in general, however, rekindles memories of the extreme impact this
relatively brief war had on American society. The impacts our society incurred during this war was influenced by a number of factors, only one of which was the harsh
contrast between Iraq and American ideology. The situation in the Middle East is a complicated affair and an affair which demanded U.S. intervention during the Persian Gulf crisis.
This need revolved around U.S. military might as well as ideologies which are central to U.S. philosophy. Many primary documents exists which attest to this fact. Many, in
fact, have been compiled into easily accessible sources. One such source is "The Gulf War Reader: History, Documents, Opinions" compiled by editors Micah L. Sifry and Christopher Cerf.
As our current involvement in Iraq has reminded us, Iraq is in reality a very small country with a very big reputation.
As the each of the primary documents in "The Gulf War Reader: History, Documents, Opinions" attest, much of this reputation comes at the hands of her leader, Saddam Hussein, a
