Essay / Research Paper Abstract
5 pages in length. The Great Dying is historically known as a period of time two hundred and fifty-one million years ago where the earth suffered significant and overwhelming devastation. The most intriguing aspect about this mass extinction of plant and animal life is that scientists still have no concrete evidence why such a phenomenon occurred. That the planet lost more than ninety percent of all marine plant and animal life, as well as nearly seventy percent of all land species, makes one ponder the underlying spiritual reasons for such havoc. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

mass extinction of plant and animal life - " by far the greatest biological crisis the world has ever endured" (Smith, 1999, p. PG) - is that scientists still have
no concrete evidence why such a phenomenon occurred. That the planet lost more than ninety percent of all marine plant and animal life, as well as nearly seventy percent
of all land species, makes one ponder the underlying spiritual reasons for such havoc (Ham, 2000). Native Americans often look to the hidden
meaning of events such as these, as a means by which to make better sense out of the tragedy. Why is it important to know about this phenomenon and
what can be learned from its impact upon the people of the world? Indeed, the Native American population has demonstrated a stronger spiritual connection with the earth and the
issues that surround it; therefore, it would not be surprising to learn that there may have been an elemental motivation behind this global disaster more primitive than mere mortals could
understand. Death in any capacity, an entity greatly feared and misunderstood by humankind, is the representation of lifes end. Native Americans, however, take a decidedly different approach to
such mortality, postulating that death - in all its ominous forms - is truly nothing to ones existence but a component of rebirth. The connection that exists between life
and death is often viewed as quite segmented when looking through mortal eyes; Native American postulation is determined to bridge this ever-widening gap by demonstrating how death is not only
a significant and very important part of life, but that it in no way detracts from the existence of current life forms. The
