how it happened and how it affected people. The Great Depression The Great Depression happened for a variety of reasons. It involved the stock market crash, and the
Dust Bowl wherein much of the farmable land in the United States became dust. But, in terms of where the problems seemed to have originated it appears as though banks
began the troubles as they themselves saw troubles. "The failure of many banks led to a general and nationwide loss of confidence in the economy, which in turn led to
much-reduced levels of spending and demand, which consequently led to a drop in production, thus further aggravating this vicious cycle" (Jain). By the year 1932 people had been purchasing so
little that manufacturing was reduced to 54% of what it had been in 1929 (Jain). As such unemployment rose as well (Jain).
The stock market crash occurred in 1929 and this was essentially the true signal of the Great Depression (The Great Depression (1929-1939)). Although "Agriculture had collapsed in 1919 and was
a continuing source of weakness" the true brunt of agricultures influence came with the Great Dust bowl and all the devastating realities associated with that period in history (Jain). There
were droughts and then there was insect infestation that would destroy much of the farmland. And, many of the problems were associated with growing practices that left the soil barren
