against restricting guns by legislation. Proponents of gun control legislation see it as a measure for the protection of society. Legislation that acts to the control of weapons
leads to a dramatic reduction of existing regulatory barriers that have the greatest potential impact on the problem of illegally obtaining handguns. Solving the gun issue is more difficult
than many believe, but the issue is one that must be solved because gun related violence continues to occur. With all of the issues relating to the right to
arms vs. people being harmed by handguns, one must examine the governments policy on gun control. The war on guns is not only
being fought on Capital Hill, it is also being fought on the streets. For example, in Virginia, there are billboards with serious warnings. They foster hostilities
between the NRA and the federal government. Their inscription reads: "An illegal gun gets you five years in Federal Prison" (18). Their meaning is clear, although controversial.
The effort has been successful in the war against guns. The reason behind the warning on the billboards is to reduce violent crimes, such as the large number of
murders that occur in that area. The warnings are part of a federal experiment labeled "Project Exile" (Ragavan 18). The experiment involves
moving gun-related crimes into federal jurisdiction instead of prosecution using state laws. The state laws are believed to be ineffectual, and the federal laws are believed to be tough.
Felons that are caught with guns under federal law are denied bond, for example. Mandatory sentencing is also a factor in federal gun laws. The idea was
