Rabbi meant teacher, thus references to Jesus in a teaching role can be found in passages that refer to Him as either teacher of Rabbi. Additionally, there are incidents when
Jesus is inherently placed in the role of teacher. Any time He is preaching, for example, He is teaching. The Sermon on the Mount is an especially good example. Using
Matthews recounting of the Sermon, we see Jesus using a step-by-step approach to teach. Matthews recounts this order, Jesus first presents the blessings, the beatitudes that demonstrate the infinite generosity
and love of God: "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock"
(Matthew 7:24). "...and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:20). There are rubrics implied throughout the Sermon on the Mount as presented in Matthew: the
most important law is love of God and the second most important law is love of ones neighbors. The theme of the Sermon on the Mount is righteousness. To be
righteous, one must follow the law so that both obedience and righteousness are entwined. A great deal of Jesus teaching is found in parables. As an example, the Parable
of the Sower in Matthew 13:3-23. This parable talks of a farmer sowing the seed is not to be taken literally. The farmer is an analogy to God the Father,
who has sown the seed of His intentions and activities. The soil is a metaphor for the world. The seed is Jesus Christ, who has come to give Gods message
to the world, i.e., He is sowing His Fathers messages. Jesus is the key to the Parable of the Treasure in the Field cited in Matthew 13:44 - Jesus is
