Every other detail is argued over. David Carters (2004) book, Stonewall: The riots that sparked the gay revolution the authors goal is to clarify at least some of these details.
In this paper, I will discuss whats Carters (2004) goals were for his readers and what the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community has done since the riot.
Prior to the Riot In the 1960s, homosexuality was illegal. There was absolutely no tolerance for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. They were regarded as immoral people
and no one was willing to protect them. If a person was discovered to be homosexual, that persons life could easily become their own personal hell. Even Hollywood was unforgiving
for an LGBT person (Carter, 2004) and portrayed them as a villain or victims of their own sexuality. Lucky for the LGBT community, there were people who were looking to
make a quick dollar. In the case of the Stonewall Inn, it was the mob. Naturally, the mob is always looking for ways to make money and willing to go
against the law to do so. While the drinks were watered down and the prices inflated, the Stonewall Inn was a small slice of heaven for the LGBT community in
New York City. It was a place to be able to cozy up to a significant (or not-so-significant) other. Unfortunately, the police were aware of places such as the
Stonewall Inn existing and were constantly shutting them down. But on that night in 1969, LGBT persons were fed up with feeling like there was no place to turn to
