more legislation against tobacco companies, it would not be a surprise if the industry itself is close to vanished by that time. Why? There are several reasons. More and more,
legislation has come about to prohibit smoking inside buildings and sometimes even outdoors. New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has forged a campaign against cigarette smoking in the
city (Steinhauer, 2002). It has outraged many bar owners and vendors who make their money off of cigarette sales. In fact, he recently implemented one of the toughest smoking bans
in the country. If such a trend continues, people will not be able to smoke in bars anywhere in the country. In fact, there are fewer and places where people
are allowed to smoke. Also, social convention has rendered cigarette smoking dirty and undesirable. This view has changed over time as once, smoking was actually considered glamorous. Another reason for
the likely decline of smoking is due to information, sometimes in the form of public service announcements, that provides new documentation that smoking is hazardous in numerous ways. Second hand
smoke has been seen as almost as detrimental which means that wives and husbands will complain to their spouses and children will complain to their parents. Some research links second
hand smoke to specific diseases like asthma. These findings and continual drilling into the minds of the public--not to mention doctors who applaud these recommendations--should have a detrimental effect on
the tobacco industry. In fact, there has been no time in history where anti-smoking has been more prevalent. The pendulum has never swung the other way once the momentum began
when it was discovered that smoking is in fact detrimental. Hence, it is more likely than not that smoking will be greatly reduced in about ten years time. This will
