customers. Yet, it has had its critics. Many people believe that McDonalds is one of many companies which profits by selling foods that promote obesity and heart disease. In fact, lawsuits have been waged in respect to that. Other lawsuits had addressed the fact that its coffee is too hot, but that happened long ago and is viewed as frivolous by most. In fact, McDonalds has entered the coffee wars with its new exciting brews. The chain seems to reinvent itself at every turn and this seems to be a significant strength. No matter what criticism is pushed its way, McDonalds usually comes out smelling like a rose. What is next for McDonalds? Again, the restaurant chain competes by introducing good coffee but it also competes with other fast food establishments in different ways. To counteract negative publicity, McDonalds has introduced salads. Not only that, but the salad meal would come with a plastic pedometer and a bottle full of water. Few can argue that this company is capitalizing on heart disease. What is next for McDonalds? CEO James Skinner remarked in 2005: "Well, I think the next leg of growth comes from continuing to be relevant for our customers and restaurants every day. If were doing a better job today than we did yesterday, providing them the great service, quality, cleanliness and value, thats a winning proposition for us" (qtd. in Griffeth & Lebeau, 2005). Basically, he is saying that McDonalds is already successful so there is no need to change the formula. They do need to keep up the good work. Yet, that is not entirely true.
