Two decades ago, information was derived from newspapers and magazines. The Internet was just a pie in the sky notion as someone had an idea to link computers with one
another. Once that became a reality, the phenomenon grew exponentially, and today, the World Wide Web is something that has changed the way people live, act, think, and view
the world. According to a student "mass communication on the web is the future in getting information to the masses." Indeed, it seems as if the Internet is something that
is here to stay and has revolutionized communications around the world. Baran and Davis agree, suggesting that the world is undergoing a revolution of sorts (2). They explain
that things are changing in communication technology and that has altered everything, even transforming social orders (Baran and Davis 2). How can this be the case? It seems that the
Internet is something that is used in widespread fashion, all around the world. People are able to get news at a moments notice. This is a far cry from the
old days in Paul Reveres time when lights were used as signals and news was gathered by word of mouth. People rode horses, going from town to town, to spread
the word. Of course, there were no teleophoens then either. In between the old days and the new age of the Internet was a time when newspapers would provide
up to date news items. However, things would happen overnight. Headlines were sometimes missed. For example, when much of the media thought Al Gore won the presidential election in 2000,
