While there are varieties of corn and corn products, it is the basic corn that is the most lucrative. While most specialties do usually have price incentives, many do not do as well as conventional corn (Grooms, 1998). In some cases, there just may not be enough motivation to produce certain types of specialties and a grower needs to calculate both premiums and yields in order to project net returns for an operation (1998). There are a variety of driving forces in the world of corn. Corn as well as feed corn is as basic as milk and eggs. It is a popular vegetable and crosses a wide demographic range. Children, who often scoff at vegetables will usually eat corn and corn on the cob is a favorite at picnics and barbecues in the summer. Although corn is a basic food, there are areas of experimentation and one might conclude that indeed, things will change in the future for this commodity as a result. First, it is prudent to look at the commodity and its uses. Corn is a popular American vegetable and one that is grown in the Midwest. It is marketed to consumers in a variety of ways and in a variety of forms. It is something that can be breakfast in the form of cereal or it can be a snack food as popcorn or corn cakes.
