Gilgamesh, who was one-third human and two-thirds god, and he was sent to rule Uruk, which was a great, walled city. But he was not a good or fair
king, and so the people desperately sought for him a companion, in the hopes that this would tame his evil nature. It was the goddess Aruru who introduced Enkidu
to Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh and Enkidu had a seemingly close friendship and companionship, until one day a young hunter
seduced Enkidu, with the permission of Gilgamesh. From that point forward, the beasts of nature no longer welcomed Enkidu, where he had once felt so at home, but instead
he now possessed a greater understanding and wisdom. Furthermore, the hunter that seduced Enkidu encouraged him to challenge the power of Gilgamesh.
Enkidu did just that, and in the process learned many things. For instance, he learned to scare off the lions and cattle, which won him the
hearts of the people of the country. He then confronted Gilgamesh, and won the ensuing battle by a narrow margin. In the wake of this battle (over a
woman), the two became inseparable friends/lovers. From that point forth, Gilgamesh never abused his power again. In terms of
the entire poem, the friendship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu is very significant. Enkidu serves as an important source of inspiration and strength for Gilgamesh. This helps Gilgamesh win
some very important battles. Furthermore, Enkidu lends his necessary support when Anu sends the Bull of Heaven to destroy Gilgamesh. With the help of Enkidu, Gilgamesh is able
