Essay / Research Paper Abstract
This 10 page paper is a PowerPoint presentation with accompanying notes. The presentation looks at temperate forest biomes, giving general background on biomes to place the temperate forest biome in the broader context, looks at the characteristics and gives examples of different types of symbiotic relationships and compares this to a freshwater biome which may boarder with it. The bibliography cites 5 sources.

way in which life exists in communities can be divided into biomes, this has been defined by Campbell (1996) as "the worlds major communities, classified according to the predominant vegetation
and characterized by adaptations of organisms to that particular environment" This is a very important concept, the importance and interactions of biomes change over time, but they are also interrelated
on a global level. Changes in one area, such as the reduction of rainforest, can impact on other areas, such as increasing rainfall on other grasslands. Slide 3
There are six major types of biome; these are desert, forest, grassland, tundra, freshwater and marine (Campbell, 1996; Odum, 1993). In turn these
may also be divided into sub categories of biome with differing sets of characteristics, for example there are several types of grassland, including the temperate grassland where there are prairies
and tall grasses, however, there are not many of these left as many have been converted for agricultural use (Deacon, 2007). There are also savannahs, which can be classed as
tropical grasslands, these may have some interspersed trees, these are the type of grasslands that make up much of Africa (Deacon, 2007). The tundra is made up of
the artic, found near the poles and the alpine found near mountain topes, there are four types of desert, hot and dry, semiarid, costal and cold (Deacon, 2007). Forest biomes
may be seen as boarding on many of these. Slide 4 The forest biome developed about 240 million years ago, when in the Silurian Period the arthropods
and the ancient plants time started to populate the land, and over a million yards developed into forests. The first forest trees were populated by trees up to forty feet
