THE PERSONALITY DIMENSIONS AND HOW THEY ARE USED IN LEADERSHIP Normally we can conclude that those people are more competitively oriented oftentimes act in aggressive and uncooperative manners. To their way of thinking the only situation is one of win-lose, and they are often found trying to dominate others. This does not make for a successful leader, obviously. The more agreeable type person is one who is concerned with trying to satisfy both parties concerns in a conflict. People who have an agreeable orientation tend to be highly assertive and highly co-operative in behavior. They seek a mutually beneficial solution, integration and win-win situations. It is easy to see this would make a more successful leader (McKenna 1995). Conscientiousness plays a very important role in that of an effective leader. Gareth Morgan, in his book Images of Organization (1997) explains that the conscientious leader, by using specific methods to determine how to make the organization run more efficiently, can bolster the productivity of the organization. Morgans acknowledgement of this untapped resource should serve as a wake-up call to much of corporate America.
