paper offers a review and summary of the book. The First Lady by Carl Weber In this book there is a
woman, Charlene, who is married to the minister of a church. She is dying and she plans to arrange it so that her husband will marry the right woman for
him and for the church and thus the community. This is done through a great many letters she writes, and has a friend deliver, at particular times throughout the book.
As one author notes, she "makes plans to control her husbands and the churchs destiny from beyond the grave" (Riley). What happens
is that she makes all these letters, with the assistance of Alison, that are to be delivered throughout a period of time. It seems that once things have moved in
a particular direction another letter will be delivered, all in the process of eliminating the various women and pinpointing one individual woman who Charlene wanted her husband to marry. Each
section of the work is intriguing in that it is narrated by a different individual, by the women involved for the most part. In this the reader gets a very
good look at the various women and their lives. One individual offers information on the women the letters go to in the
following: "The first-lady contenders include Marlene, a recovering drug addict and the Bishops baby mama from another life; Monique, looked upon as a loose woman; Savannah, a singer and deacons
