Essay / Research Paper Abstract
A 5 page overview of the underlying theme of femininity in these two short stories. Suggests that in many ways these depictions vary somewhat from the stereotypical vision of male writers depicting weak and inferior women and female writers presenting a more factually accurate portrait of their female characters. In many ways Poe presents a stronger image of women in "Ligeia" than does Cooke in "My Visitation". While Poe's short stories could be said to glorify the image of a strong woman, Cooke's actually derides that strength. No additional sources are listed.
