of giving the responsibility of the development of information technology architectures and under the OMB Funding Information Systems Investments, there is requirement for consistency within the agency investments within Federal,
agency and bureau information technology architectures (CIO Council, 1999). Development started on the Federal enterprise architecture framework in 1998 with the aim of promoting aspects such as sharing in interoperability,
between Federal government agencies and other government entities (CIO Council, 1999). The framework is made up of a number of different models and approaches aimed at supporting the underlying integration
strategy and maintenance of the Federal enterprise architecture. It is being achieved with the use of a segment architecture allowing the different segments to be developed independently at ensuring they
are capable of integration. In developing information technology architectures the different agencies will use the same general approach, which may be modified to suit their purposes. The aim of the
Federal enterprise architecture is to give a reference point facilitating the aims in terms of information flow and integration (CIO Council, 1999). With a single reference point it is envisaged
