911 disaster, and it had not been in great shape prior to that time. And while the industry was struggling as many others had been in this volatile economy, after
September 11, 2001, things had really become uncomfortable for industry insiders. The New York Times reported just a year after the disaster, that there had been lobbying efforts in respect
to airlines and airports in order to scale back on security measures (Wong, 2002). Many passengers had been frustrated by long delays (2002). Indeed, many problems had surfaced in respect
to security. Also, stories have circulated regarding the problems of increased security. One woman reportedly had to consume her own breast milk while onlookers watched in horror, because she violated
the rule of having an open container in her possession. Other stories suggest that airlines target older people who are unlikely threats only to show that they are not profiling,
and there have also been reported delays due to passenger outbursts and fears when some notice others of Middle Eastern descent who appear suspicious. People have complained. Also, airlines are
resentful of new security measures (2002). And while the airline industry is hurting economically, one has to assume that this is only a temporary situation. The aftermath of September
11th has created a fearful flying public, but soon that will deteriorate as things get back to normal. By no means does this suggest that airlines will become less scrupulous.
The situation appears to be quite the contrary. Airlines and airports may have to keep security high for the long haul, much like Israel always has. Yet, as the world
