perceived, yet home is not always safe. There is the old adage that most accidents occur in the home. Whilst this it true, it is not always the physical home that is the danger but the family. The perception of the ideal family being a safe place is fading, as there is increasing evidence that the family may be a very dangerous place. If we are to argue that the ideal family, rather than being safe, can harbour may dangers the first issue is to consider what we mean by an ideal family. The ideal family may be argued as being two parents and two or three children, middle class with few worries. However, this is a very narrow view of an ideal family, therefore the definition needs to widen. If we consider the meaning of ideal, then this may be seen as "1. A conception of something in its absolute perfection, 2. One that is regarded as a standard or model of perfection or excellence" (Dictionary.com). The first of these ,ay indicate that it is not an attainable scenario, as not family will e perfect. However, the second may give a clearer indication of how we may define this. The ideal family may be seen as different make up where there is a carting and safe environment, This may mean not looking at the characteristics that are present, but at the issues that should not be present. There are a range of issues that are known to increase the chances of harm or danger in a family, the presence of poor environment, poverty, drugs and alcohol abuse, the phenomenon of latch key kids, and other social problems would need to be absent.
