legal theory to come forth during the Middle Ages where it was deemed that the pope was the head of the Church as it was deemed a legal corporation (Gaillardetz,
1997). There had been a council that met to resolve the argument over whether or not the pope had ultimate power (Gaillardetz, 1997). Of course, this would suggest that the
Popes power is diminished if the council is able to make this call (Gaillardetz, 1997). Still, the Pope is seen as the leader of the Catholic Church today, and this
is something that cannot be denied. Whether or not he has the final word in terms of Catholic teachings is debatable. In delving into Catholic traditions and beliefs, there are
certain concepts that should be addressed. These will likely lead to a conclusion in terms of the role of the Pope. First, there is a difference between Pauls Jesus and
Gospel Jesus. Gospel Jesus is what most people have come to think about the man named Jesus. Gospel Jesus is attached to many stories in that he was a teacher,
a healer, a preacher and a savior. There are many stories of his having the ability to heal, walk on water and turn water into wine. In fact, the New
Testament paints him in a light where he can do no wrong. He is all good and his teachings are exciting. At the same time, there is a sense that
