has been in existence for a long time, and has seen itself rise and fall is the label of Balenciaga. AS we write this paper the label is in fashion,
there has been a return of favour to the house and this is reflected by the new ownership of the house, purchased in 2001 by Gucci (Anonymous, 2001). To make
a purchase such as this the label, and the fashion house, must be seen as both commercially viable and abler to add value to another well known as respected fashion
label by increasing exposure, market share, and most importantly , in any commercial operation, the profit levels. Gucci now own 91% of this fashion house, with the balance of
the fashion house being owned by the current head designer; Nicolas Ghesqui?re, who is credited with turning the fortunes of the fashion house around with his talent, that has won
him the award of International Designer of the Year at the respected CFDA awards (Anonymous, 2001). We can argue that the attraction of this fashions house has been its
history, and the way that it may be seen as being one of the most influential fashion houses if the twentieth century. To appreciate this we need to consider the
origins of the house, and how it has developed on line with the development of the fashion industry as a whole. The house was founded by Cristobal Balenciaga. Born
Cristal Balenciaga Eisaguirre in the nineteenth century (1895) in Spain (Davis, 2002). His family background was one of sewing, taught by his mother until 1910, and then in 1915 managed
