Essay / Research Paper Abstract
This 6 page
report discusses for at least the past three decades, the
American public has had to face the fact that heroin is every bit
as terrifyingly dangerous as the scare stories told in attempts
to keep the baby boom generation away from it. Other destructive
and terrifying drugs, such as crack cocaine, have moved to the
forefront of the general consciousness. Nonetheless, heroin has
maintained its position as one of the world’s most dangerous
drugs. That position has been strengthened by the fact that
heroin use has risen rapidly in recent years among American
teenagers, with many middle-class teens snorting the drug in the
mistaken belief that it is less addictive ingesting it that way
than shooting up. In fact, the proportion of American
12th-graders who had used heroin doubled between 1990 and 1996.
