Essay / Research Paper Abstract
A 10 page examination of the factors which have influenced Internet evolution. Describes the Internet as a continually evolving organism, an organism which has it roots planted in history only shallowly, an organism which has made tremendous technological and societal leaps in the brief thirty years of so of its life. Contends that those leaps have been made in response to very definite societal stimuli: the desire for speedy access to information, the desire for an unregulated environment, the desire for greater one-on-one contact, and the desire to allow free access to information while at the same time protecting the privacy of users.
