The manner in which we present information in a public format has changed dramatically just in the last four decades.
In the 1960s a speakers presentation style revolved largely around his or her credibility. While personality sometimes entered into the picture, content was the most important demand place on
the speaker. Today, in comparison, we tend to judge a speaker on rhetoric, propaganda and emotion. In essence, our communication styles have evolved from the critical to the
functinalist over the past four decades. Another interesting point to note in regard to the evolution of speaking and presentation style is the fact that the evolution we have witnessed
in the last forty years suggests a process which will continue into the future. While the credibility our nations most prominent individuals is sure to become even more laced
with dramatism and propaganda, ultimately the American should tire of such theatrics and once again we will return to judging a speaker more on his or her credibility than on
their theatrical style. There are as many approaches to communication as their are individuals. It is an acknowledged fact that conversational styles
and communication skills vary between cultures and genders (Nelton, 1995). These styles vary considerably according to purpose as well. Communication is the most effective tool in many instances
for bringing another individual around to a certain viewpoint. It is, however, a tool whose use can change significantly according to the environment and intent. The environment in
