Regional integration is becoming the norm for an assortment of countries and regions. In Western Europe, of course, the most notable reflection of regional integration is the
European Union (EU). Established in 1993, the EU has unified European countries as they have never been unified at any other point in history. Consequently, Western Europe stands
as a preeminent example of the application of neofunctional principles to the development of an integrated political community. The impact of
the EU has been multifaceted. It will undoubtedly be a tremendously important factor in the future stabilization of political and economic power. It will also be a tremendously
important influence on the rest of the world. Its impact on global business will be of particular importance. The influence the EU
has had on global business has been both positive and negative. There are, in fact, many challenges confronting the EU from a global business perspective. The EU must
constantly walk a tightrope between member nation restriction and promotion if it is to balance out the best interest of the EU as a whole. That interest, of course,
is just as impacted by global business as it has been at any other point in the past. In some regards in fact, those nations who are members of
the EU are even more affected by global factors than they have been in the past. There is an ongoing need, for example,
