case of Scott Richter is so controversial. The self-proclaimed spam king has seemingly gotten off easy. He is able to run his business even after lawsuits have been waged as
he makes millions of dollars each year. What does this case mean for the general public? What are the ethics of spamming? II. The Case of Scott Richter
Scott Richter had been sued by the state of New York as well as by Microsoft because he engaged in the practice of spamming (Cassavoy, 2004). Richter continues to conduct
business that he claims is just ordinary email marketing. He had at one time called himself the biggest spammer in the world. Now, his rhetoric is toned down and he
claims that he is just engaging in business. It is true that many companies send email out to people on a prescribed list. Yet, one problem that occurs is that
people sign up to be on certain lists, and then they also agree to get email from select partners. The people just do not realize that they have signed up
for this. Then, they think they are being spammed. In fact, this is Richters explanation as to why there is so much "spam" (Cassavoy, 2004). The claim is that the
email people call spam have been requested. However, people either get tired of receiving so many emails or just do not expect that sort of volume. Some of it is
