man of serious conscience may contend that there are things men should never do (PG). The author contends that the good things done by man can be only be rendered
complete by the things they refuse to do (PG). The author presents an interesting prospect. When one enters the realm of genetic alteration, one is entering controversial philosophical territory. On
one hand, there is the argument that altering genes can help mankind in the future and that it is only due to superstitious and religious ideas that hold scientific exploration
back. On the other hand, there are serious ethical issues that plague scientists. Presently, there is genetic engineering occurring all the time and it is certainly possible that man has
already exceeded the limits of good conscience, creating a world where man is in charge of whether or not human beings, or other species, can live or die based on
a moral scheme. Today, men who are not guilty may be sentenced to death for the greater good of society while babies die due to a womans right to choose.
Each situation is taken individually but it is really all the same. These situations of human doings comes down to similar issues of morality. At the same time, in broaching
new territory with cloning possibilities, the moral issues which would surface as a result have likely not even been contemplated. It might indeed be a brave new world upon us.
