An odyssey is a long journey or a series of travels. People embark on odysseys for a variety of reasons, but perhaps the most well known are for religious
conversion or in relationship to a moral quest. In reading Daviss compilation in The Ancient World Through the Renaissance, it appears that he suggests that an odyssey is obligatory for
any hero or moral person. An odyssey does of course have the capacity to change people just as one is changed somewhat by a vacation, or a journey, or
just living life. That part is obvious. However, an odyssey is very special and it is no coincidence that the book also contains a chapter about Homers Odyssey. In fact,
Homers Odyssey is a good starting point in embarking on this journey into the mind of man. One story begins as follows: "Tell me, O muse, of that ingenious
hero who traveled far and wide after he had sacked the famous town of Troy" (Homer 156). The Odyssey was written in 800 B.C. and woven into the pages
of Homers great work are a slew of characters. One of those is Odysseus, an unlikely hero. Odysseus is in some ways an antihero. At the same time,
he is a character in Homers Odyssey who is never boring. He is quite intelligent and sufficient in terms of strength. Thus, here is a hero of sorts. Although he
