on pollution as well as a responsible approach to the outputs and the outputs of their industry. However, we can also argue that despite the positive moves and the availability
of the company to take a high moral ground that the actual decision to become an environmental company was chosen not purely for altruistic reasons but for sound commercial reasons
as a strategy. Even today the company is benefiting form the environmentalism such as with the order for 184 articulated buses in order to manage the park and ride schemes
that come into effect in the summer of 2005 in Stockholm as a result of measure to reduce pollution; environmental charges on drivers (Anonymous, 2004). Whatever the motivation behind the
moves the company appears to have made some significant contributions towards environmental protection when compared with other automotive companies. Looking at this
from an ecocentric paradigm the motivation may be questionable, but the fact remains Volvo had an extremely good reputation for environmentalism. The question is how much of the rhetoric is
translated into reality, especially when it comes to air pollution especially as environmentalism is espoused as one of the companies core values (Chandler, 2004). The development of environmentalism in
the company stated in the 1980s although a desire to move in this direction had been expressed by Pehr Gyllenhammar; Volvos Chief Executive Officer in 1972 when he stated that
