life, particularly through the process of globalization. As globalization increases, barriers both political and economic have the tendency to break down, and for that reason, it is a process that
is usually championed as a positive one for society as a whole. However, like most cultural phenomena, globalization has its drawbacks. One area in which these drawbacks can be seen
is through the widespread importation and exportation of food products. Countries throughout the world make a significant profit by exporting locally grown food products to other regions of the world
that either cant grow those products locally, or which cant grow them as abundantly or cheaply. Either way, this has a detrimental impact on both the environment and on human
health, and has led people across the world to place a renewed focus on the importance of acquiring foods locally, as measured by a concept known as "food miles". In
this paper, I will assess the content of two recent meals, determine the food miles for each, and determine areas in which my meals could have been altered to be
more eco-friendly. Additionally, I will survey the benefits and drawbacks to the worldwide importation and exportation of food in a borderless society. This paragraph will provide the student with
