are taught play a role in terms of retention. Someone who is reading a book in a quiet environment will probably absorb more information than someone who is reading
a book in a place where there are constant disruptions. When one thinks about learning in general, dependent on ones perspective, a number of ideas come to mind. Memorization
of the periodic table, directives, watching a National Geographic special, and learning the alphabet in order are some things that may be equated with the process of learning. One can
begin to see that a random list concerning such types of experiences can be quite long. There are many ways that individuals learn and different individuals also have different learning
styles. Some people can learn in noisy environments while others require complete silence. Those who are afflicted with an attention disorder require specific accommodations or medication so that learning can
take place. It makes sense to look at a variety of concepts when it comes to learning. In doing so, it becomes clear that social and cultural factors play a
significant role. The social environment does impact an individuals ability or desire to learn. Learning occurs within an interpersonal space between teacher and child (Garcia, 2003). Learning to read for
instance is aligned with identity negotiation and this is something that is related to societal power relationships (Garcia, 2003). One can begin to see that the learning process is something
