may also be seen as a more diverse and socially used term, with the relationship being more than is implied by law. The employment relationship is the more than the
legal contract, it is the social relationship between the employer and the employees, individuals and as a group, and is reflected in concepts such as the psychological contract.
The relationship between labour and management has been subject to both regulation as well as social pressure and in many occasions we have seen that
it can be a very confrontational relationship that appears to be made up of two sides them and us and the battle lines are drawn depending on which side of
the line you fall. Management would be expected to support the management stance and employees who made up the workforce were expected to stay the workers side of the line.
It is in this way many disputes developed and were settled when eventually the unions or the workers representatives and the employer would sit down and hold negations. This was
a situation where neither side would actually win, but it is this confrontational style which appears to have pervade American and UK companies and corporate history, from the workers
of Ford to the members of the smaller unions, industrial action has been one way of making the employees voice heard. However, this is not the only way of the
