acquisition of any skill-set in life, from the most basic motor skill and memorization techniques learned in Kindergarten, to the highly specialized knowledge imparted in graduate schools or in on
the job training. Without educational principles informing these styles of training, technology and industry would be at a standstill. There is also the matter that education is a necessary aspect
of the trans-generational transmission of knowledge, without which knowledge and skills would have to be continually "re-discovered", and no discipline could ever meaningfully advance. The repercussions for disciplines such as
medicine and law could be catastrophic; our contemporary society literally could not exist without the widespread use of education. Moreover, education is viewed as a "high stakes" enterprise; children are
typically exposed to generalized education in public schools during their most formative years, which means that the types of education they are exposed to will have a major impact upon
their future development. To entrust the psychosocial development of entire generations of students to teachers bespeaks of the importance inherent in the role education plays in modern life. For all
of these reasons, there is great incentive to attempt to codify the approach to education that "works the best", which maximizes the benefits conferred by education, and which reduces any
