minor impact on such things (Frauenheim, 2004). Similarly, as the 2008 presidential election heats up, business professionals are worried that an Obama win could place barriers to trade in their
paths. They worry not only about Obamas promise to close loopholes that see companies easily take business globally, but they also fear higher corporate taxes. In general, the Republican party
runs on a platform that is better for big business because it allows big business a great deal of freedom in terms of trade and general decision-making. Obviously, in this
particular election, the current state of economics, and the bank scandals, have superseded ordinary economic philosophy. Yet, when things settle down, people look at the big picture and see McCain
as much friendlier towards the needs of business. While it may be true that big business prefers McCain, an Obama win will not mean that things are dismal on Wall
Street. Obviously, big business has emerged soundly through a number of Democrat presidencies. Even if a Democrat president sits in the White House, it is important to remember that the
executive office is only one branch of government, and much has to do with which parties have control over Congress. Still, the president does lead and a powerful president will
be able to push his or her agenda through more easily. If in fact measures that hinder free trade are passed, big business may not profit as nicely. However, such
