to pursue higher education, typically earn much less over the course of their life, and also face societal stigma. Additionally, their children often struggle to keep pace with peers who
have older and more stable parental situations. Teenage pregnancy is without a doubt one of the biggest crises a teen can face, and the effects are far-reaching indeed. To be
sure, teenage pregnancy remains a major problem in the United States. As a matter of fact, it is a bigger problem in the US than it is anywhere else in
the "industrialized world" (Huus, 2010). For the past fifteen years, teenage pregnancy had been on the decline, but ever since 2005, the rates have been rising a steady three percentage
points each year (Huus, 2010). In terms of raw numbers, that means that some 750,000 teenagers become pregnant in the United States each and every year Huus, 2010). Experts
differ in their analysis of what trend is responsible for this rise in teenage pregnancy. Many seem to feel that education, or the lack thereof, is to blame. For example,
during the 15 year window during which the rate of teenage pregnancy was declining, mandatory sex education was a major part of public school curricula. Over the last decade or
so, however, sex education programs stressing abstinence as the sole method by which to avoid becoming pregnant have become more popular, and as a consequence, teenage pregnancy has begun to
