of illegal drugs on the brain, it helps to define and categorize illegal substances. For example, marijuana is illegal but it is a rather benign drug according to many sources
whereas crack for example is physically addicting and deadly. While each type of drug has certain characteristics and effects--both physical and psychological--they also have certain effects on the brain. New
research is being done everyday to determine just what the effects of illegal substances are on the human brain. While that is true, there are very basic processes that occur
when one indulges in these drugs. Unlike the fried egg example, the brain is only slightly affected by illegal substances. First, what are illegal drugs exactly? In some way, it
is hard to classify illegal versus legal drugs. That is because many drugs are legal for some people but illegal for others. For example, Rush Limbaugh was taking legal prescribed
drugs but he became addicted to a narcotic purportedly due to what is known as "doctor shopping." In other words, by collecting a variety of legal prescriptions under false pretenses,
one is actually taking drugs illegally. Similarly, teenagers are no allowed to drink in a nation that sees the drinking age as 21. Alcohol is a legal substance but it
is not legal for a twenty year old for example. To avoid confusion, a student writing on this paper should stick to drugs that are illegal for everyone. Marijuana is
