1. Introduction HIV and AIDs have attracted a great deal of press. Over the last few decades since HIV virus and AIDs emerged there have been millions of
depths. Initially focused on the gay community the virus has demonstrated there are no boundaries and as such men women and children are all suffering the effects. In 2004 it
is estimated that 3.1 million people died form AIDs, the majority of these; 2.3 million all died in Sub-Sarah Africa (UNAIDS, 2004). Globally 4.9 million adults and children are estimated
to have newly contacted HIV in 2004; 3.1 million in Sub-Saharan Africa. This shows the problem is broad, but most acute in Sub-Saharan Africa. The attention is often paid
to the medical impact, but there are those who are less visible; children and orphans. This more vulnerable group may be impacted directly or indirectly, suffering from contracting the condition
form parents or loosing parents to the condition, orphaning them and facing the many problems associated with being parentless in a developing country. The purpose of this paper is to
investigate the relationship between orphans and HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa and identify the effects of HIV/AIDS on orphans in Sub-Saharan Africa. The paper will start by considering what HIV is
