has, the better off the children. Bornstein & Bradley (2003) for example see a significant connection. Eliot (2000) is another author who notes a link between lower socioeconomic status and
lower IQ. This is an important connection. Why should children have a lower IQ simply because they are not as well off financially? After all, it seems that intellect is
distributed in a nondiscriminatory way. Natural ability is inborn and has little to do with the material world. Of course, IQ actually refers to an intelligence test, which has long
been associated with SES. The famous Bell Curve debate in fact centers around the fact that IQ measures intelligence, but it is often based on examples found in the
environment. Some of the examples provided are things that kids with lower SES were never exposed to. They might not know what cricket is for example or much about horses.
One can see how impoverished children have fewer life experiences and cannot answer questions as readily as those who possesses great wealth or even who are middle class. This means
that the IQ is not only a measure of innate intelligence, but of what is learned. IQ is also affected by stress ("Chaotic," 2004). This is of course known. However,
there is a stigma for those with low IQ scores. Therefore, because of this and many other factors, attention to SES is important at the very early levels of education.
Children born into wealth usually have the best of everything. Sometimes they are spoiled and it is true that one can learn much by being poor, but in the end,
