abuse and the role of parents and/or adult role models has been at the center of recent studies. Existing studies, including those by Davies (1998) suggest that there are
mitigating factors that determine adolescent onset of drug abuse, including exposure to parental drug abuse, poverty, parental violence, and poor social conditions. Further, it has also been suggested that
parental alcoholism is one of the indices of alcohol abuse and possible alcoholism in youth populations. In order to consider
the nature of the connection between alcohol use (and corresponding problematic social behaviors) and parental attitudes, it is important to consider the studies conducted by psychologists like Davies (1998), who
recognized that individuals can create a kind of social "culture" that supports alcohol abuse. Further, it is also valuable to recognize the impacts of group process and the way
in which parents play a major role in the onset of problematic behaviors in adolescent populations. The research questions for this study are:
1. What role does parental attitude play in the development of teenage alcoholism? 2. Do teenagers perceive parental alcoholism as
a precursor of their own behaviors? 3. When parents actively voice opposition to alcohol use, what impact does this have on the choice to abuse substances for adolescent populations?
4. Are parental attitudes in favor of alcohol use more likely to result in teenage alcoholism than parental attitudes against alcohol use? The hypothesis for this study
