2003, good news seemed to surface. The GDP had increased more than it had in years. This is an excellent occurrence considering there had been difficulties throughout the beginning of
the twenty-first century. While the United States is coming out of a recession, there have been mixed feelings about where the economy is headed. Although there seems to be more
bulls than bears of late, some are concerned as they watch a growing market amongst lowered consumer confidence and little job growth. While many official publications claim good
news, there are lingering problems such as the fact that this is what many call a "jobless recovery." Of course, there is very recent news that shows improvement in that
area, but the consensus is that it is not enough. There are still lay offs in the air and many unemployed or who simply have stopped looking for work. Some
say that amidst the good news, more jobs will be created. In terms of policy, there has been little action taken in terms of monetary policy as the Fed
believes that everything is going well. The Fed claims that the "accommodative stance of monetary policy" along with growth in terms of productivity, does give support to the economy
("Federal Reserve," 2003). Congress is similarly impressed with the status quo. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) looks at economic figures and makes projections. Currently, they project a
rather stellar growth rate. They further explain that the growth rate for the real GDP for 2003 is 2.2 but will increase to 3.8 in 2004 and even
go beyond that in the years to come ("CBOs," 2003). Hence, the CBO is also rather optimistic. The President also seems to be elated as noted in one of his
