to spend on goods for themselves. In countries such as Nepal there is a high reliance on the income that tourism produces. The impact of tourism has been long
term, tourism has been an income producing industry for more than half a decade, with the scaling of Everest by Sir Edmund Hilary in 1953 Nepal was placed on the
tourist map. The importance of the industry is not only in terms of income, but the way that it earns foreign currency, third in line after exports and foreign aid
(Infoprod, 2001). With a long established industry that enters decline there are large economic repercussions for those who rely on that industry. This industry is also one of the biggest
employers where the average in coke is only $240 per capita per annum (CIA, 2002). More than fifty percent of the population were living in poverty subsisting on less that
$1 a day (Infoprod, 2001). There have been several influences that have reduced the attractiveness of Nepal as a tourist destination, internal conflict have escalated, the reputation of the country
for backpackers has reduced the image of the country and lessened the wider appeal, finally the events of September the 11th have created a general downturn in the industry. This
