Essay / Research Paper Abstract
7 pages. Texas has eleven distinct ecological regions that are described in this paper. Scientific evidence shows that global warming is indeed occurring because of human activities. This paper shows the relationship between the global warming and Texas' ecological regions, and how they would be affected if a 10-degree increase in global warming were to occur. Bibliography lists 12 sources.

The following are the eleven ecological regions of Texas: 1. Piney Woods - These gently rolling hills in east Texas have sandy loam soil and "fragmented pine
and pine-hardwood forests with some cropland and pastureland" (Texas Parks and Wildlife, 2002, PG). The area also has swamps and bogs and includes four national forests. 2.
Oak Woods and Prairies - This region is divided into two parts by the third ecological region, the blackland prairies. The soil here is sandy loam leaning towards
clay, and there are various oak stands separated by grasslands. 3. Blackland Prairies - This black fertile ground used to be home to the tall grasslands that
swept across parts of Texas and attracted early settlers. Most of the area is now taken up by urban sprawl. 4. Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes
- This area near the gulf coast includes the barrier islands on the gulf. The diverse ecology has grasslands, timber and marshes. 5. Coastal Sand Plains
- This is a most unique region in that it is adjacent to the Laguna Madre: "the only coastal, hypersaline lagoon system on the North American continent and one of
only three in the world" (Texas Parks and Wildlife, 2002, PG). This is a very rich ecosystem, providing most of the shrimp caught in the state. 6.
South Texas Brush Country - While this area used to be large grasslands with many stands of trees, due to being overgrazed it is now mostly shrubby underbrush.
