Urbanization is one of the most concerning phenomena of our time. The direct result of our uncontrolled population growth, the rapid escalation of urbanization that we are witnessing today impacts natural areas both directly and indirectly. Flora and fauna are disrupted and sensitive ecological areas destroyed. This, in turn, impacts mankind. When the worlds ecology is disrupted mankind loses not just the aesthetics of natural areas but their function. We lose valuable buffers that protect us from flooding and that are a critical element in the purification of our drinking water. The ecological disruption caused by urbanization also translates into the loss of potentially valuable species that have the potential to benefit mankind in a myriad of ways. Introduction Urbanization is impacting our world in a myriad of ways. Our continued expansion has disrupted both vegetation and animal life in a way that it has never been impacted before. As a consequence of that disruption human lives themselves are being impacted. While some of the worlds populace lives in rural areas, most of our populace lives either in the cities or the suburbs.
