Ottoman Empire due to a treaty which was signed and gave Russia some influence over Christians living in the Empire (Al-Muhairi, 2002). It was when the French overtook a
portion of Ottoman Egypt in 1798 that both Brittain and Russia responded and ended up signing the Treaty of Tilsit which "prepared the ground for the eventual partitioning of Ottoman
territory between the two powers" (Al-Muhairi, 2002). This was the beginning of the end for the Ottoman Empire as the other powers began to lust after the Ottoman
Empires vast holdings (Al-Muhairi, 2002). Further adding to the downfall of this government was the "stirrings of nationalism among the empires peoples, and the periodic crisis resulting form these
and other factors" (Al-Muhairi, 2002). It was clear by the 1830s that the Ottoman Empire was dying, but the question was how to dispose of the corpse in a
way which "no one power would gain an advantage at the expense of the others and upset the political balance in Europe" (Al-Muhairi, 2002). And yet, the final breath
of the Ottoman Empire wouldnt come for awhile as they left kicking and screaming all the way (Al-Muhairi, 2002). The Ottoman Empire reigned for over 600 years and
