The Ways We Lie the authors speak of lying in one way or another. Segal speaks of how many of her students lie to her when it comes to handing in assignments. In Ericssons essay the author speaks of lying from all perspectives, discussing simple white lies to lies of omission and outright lying. The following paper analyzes each, comparing them, as they address the topic of lying. The God Ate My Disk and The Ways We Lie The tone and style of each essay is quite different. In Ericssons essay she speaks relatively seriously and perhaps drying, about lying. She initially indicates that she, herself, lies several times a day it seems and that when she tried to go a week without lying it was incredibly hard, "paralyzing" and that she "discovered that telling the truth all the time is nearly impossible" (Ericsson, 1992). She then moves into illustrating how many different types of lying there is, each section possessed of some quote or another relating to lying. In Segals work there is really only the focus of lying as seen by students who have one excuse or another for not turning in assignments on time. Her work is quite humorous and lighthearted, never once seeming to indicate that the students are not gaining a positive education in life through learning how to be moralistic or ethical in their education. It is simply a humorous take on the types of excuses she hears, such as how "no one catches a cold anymore; everyone throws up blood" (Segal, 2000). There is a similarity in the fact that each author breaks down the type of lying that is done.
