theories regarding personal identity, inclusive of but not limited to the ego theory and the bundle theory2. He begins by describing a person with a divided mind where the individual
can see and understand different experience with each half of the body; the example provided focuses on someone looking at a divided page of colors and writing with one hand
that he sees red , but the other hand writes that he sees blue3. The puzzle is that there seems to be two streams of consciousness, but is this even
possible? First, it is not an easy concept to grasp so it helps to see how Parfit makes sense of the situation: " If this is how such a person
responds, I would conclude that he is having two visual sensations-that he does, as he claims, see both red and blue. But in seeing each colour he is not aware
of seeing the other. He has two streams of consciousness, in each of which he can see only one colour. In one stream he sees red, and at the same
time, in his other stream, he sees blue. More generally, he could be having at the same time two series of thoughts and sensations, in having each of which he
is unaware of having the other4." The explanation suggests that there are two minds within one individual, but Parfit rejects this simple explanation. While Parfit explains the example matter of
