Many successful CEOs and executives have become celebrities in their own right, distinct from the organizations which they lead. Accordingly, a great deal of research and emphasis has been levied
at leaders over the last century, in an attempt to distill those factors which are most important in enabling quality leadership in an organization. Different leadership "styles" promote different approaches
to matters of management, resource allocation, and strategic planning. However, these studies are not without controversy, and there are many different competing viewpoints on what factors are most contributive to
successful leadership. This paper explores four of the most widespread and popular styles of leadership: charismatic leadership, which focuses on the personality of the leader as related to building human
relationships; participative leadership, which focuses on the delegation of tasks and the involvement of secondary or tertiary parties in coming to sound leadership decisions; situational leadership, which has no inherent
baseline strategy, but adopts a pragmatic approach that differs with situational context; and transformational leadership, in which a leader uses autonomy and psychology to develop leadership qualities in his or
her followers. An overview of each style is presented, in order to effectively present the range of leadership approaches that collectively contribute to effective organization management and the achievement of
