Gold Rush and other concepts have cropped up that prompts one to think of the left coast and its nearby states. Indeed, America was settled in the East first. Slowly
but surely people made their way west. Some came from the South, from Mexico, and others from the far East like Japan. The characteristics of the west are rather interesting
as the region reflects a unique culture that is all its own. In respect to the west, a student submits the following: "It is clich? to say that the
United States is a nation of immigrants. But, perhaps even more so than the nation as a whole, one could say that the American West has housed a society of
newcomers, both migrants and immigrants." Indeed, this seems to be the case. There is much anecdotal evidence that this is true. Aside from the knowledge that the west was won
by Easterners going West and that California was the entryway for Asians--not necessarily New York--it is well known that there are a great deal of Spanish speaking immigrants who come
from Mexico and other places and settle in the Western United States. It seems that in the East for example, there was massive immigration in the early days when people
came over from Europe. It began in the colonial times of course, but there was a flurry of settlers at different points during the nineteenth century as well as early
in the twentieth as people fled from Russia and Ireland and other nations for a variety of reasons. Then, things leveled out. Yet, in the West, it seems as if
